Let's start with the basics of wax sealing using a wax gun.
Here are the tools you will need:
- Wax stamp
- Creator Mat
- Sealing wax sticks
- Low temperature wax gun
- Craft tweezers (optional)
STEP ONE | the set-up
- Set up your workstation near an outlet so you are prepared to plug in your wax gun
- Insert one wax stick into the chamber of your wax gun and push it all the way to the tip
- Plug in your wax gun and wait 2-3 minutes for it to heat up
STEP TWO | dispensing
- Once heated, dispense onto the Creator Mat directly onto your project
- With the Creator Mat, you can practice dispensing the perfect amount of wax you need for a 25mm or 30mm wax seal
STEP THREE | pressing
- Centre the stamp to the dispensed wax and press slowly but firmly
- Wait 15-20 seconds for the wax seal to cool down (the timing may vary depending on how warm your stamp is)
- TIP: If you notice any bubbles appearing, you can quickly use your craft tweezers to pop them at this step
STEP FOUR | the lift
- Once cooled, use one hand to hold down the wax seal while the other lifts the stamp
- If the wax seal doesn't come off the stamp easily, you may need to wait a few more seconds for it to cool down
STEP FIVE | celebrate
- You've made a wax seal - yay!
- Inspect your wax seal - are there any bubbles? Rings in the wax? Is the shape rounded or more organic? What could you do differently next time?
