Learn how to cut out the smallest details to create a layered, two-toned wax seal.
Materials
- Conch wax stamp
- Blank wax stamp
- Sealing wax warmer kit
- Large melting spoon
- Wax spatula
- Silicone mat
Step 1 | Make your wax seal
Pick your favourite wax colour and create a seal using the stamp you want as your main design.

Step 2 | Cut out the negative space
With an X-Acto knife, carefully cut out the areas where you’d like the background to show through. For small details, make tiny slits with the blade - these will come in handy for the next step.

Step 3 | Removing the smallest details
Using tweezers, gently poke into the slits and pull out the small wax pieces from behind to clear the negative space.

Step 4 | Creating the background
Melt two or more wax colours together to create a bold, multi-coloured background. Our large melting spoon works perfectly for this! Work quickly - if the wax sets before stamping, the design won’t transfer properly.

Step 5 | Fixing mistakes
If things don’t go as planned, no worries! Once the wax hardens, you can peel apart the layers and reuse your carefully cut design.

Step 6 | Try it again
Stamp your design onto the new background, and see the magic come together.

Bonus: Use darker wax colours for a spooky stained-glass effect, perfect for Halloween!
